Liberty Fire District was established on October 23, 1981, as the
Liberty Volunteer Fire Department, formed by dedicated community
members committed to protecting their neighbors and local
businesses. In its early years, the Department operated with limited
resources but a strong volunteer spirit that laid the foundation for the
organization’s future growth.
On July 16, 2003, Liberty transitioned from a volunteer department to
an Independent Special Fire District under Florida law. This transition
formalized governance under an elected Board of Fire Commissioners
and provided a stable funding structure to enhance operational
readiness, equipment acquisition, training standards, and long-term
planning.
Today, Liberty Fire District continues to operate with a strong
volunteer foundation while maintaining modern standards of
emergency response, regulatory compliance, and fiscal accountability.
The District remains committed to continuous improvement,
professional development, and community-centered
service—honoring its volunteer roots while meeting the evolving
demands of a growing and increasingly complex response area.
