Fire & Life Safety Inspections

Commercial Fire Inspections

Liberty Fire District conducts fire safety inspections of commercial properties within the District to help protect employees, customers, visitors, and emergency responders. Inspections identify fire hazards, support compliance with applicable fire safety requirements, and help businesses maintain safe facilities.

Florida Fire Safety Requirements

Chapter 633, Florida Statutes, establishes Florida’s framework for fire prevention and fire safety enforcement. Section 633.208 requires local governments and special districts with fire safety responsibilities to enforce the Florida Fire Prevention Code. Section 633.216 addresses fire inspection authority and the qualifications of personnel conducting required inspections.

Commercial properties must comply with the fire safety requirements applicable to their building and use. Inspection requirements and frequency depend on the occupancy, activities conducted, and applicable laws and codes.

Why We Conduct Inspections

Fire inspections help identify and correct conditions that could cause a fire, delay evacuation, or interfere with emergency response. Depending on the property, an inspection may include:

  • Clear and accessible exits and evacuation routes.
  • Exit signs and emergency lighting.
  • Fire extinguishers and service records.
  • Fire alarm and sprinkler systems, where required.
  • Electrical hazards and unsafe use of extension cords.
  • Storage of combustible and flammable materials.
  • Building identification and access for emergency vehicles.
  • Other fire and life safety conditions specific to the business.

Our goal is to work with property owners and businesses to address hazards, explain requirements, and protect our community.
